THIS WEEK (AND BEYOND) AT ST. DAVID’S

Dear Members and Friends of St.David’s,It is my great joy to announce to you the appointment of KathiaNieves as Interim Church School Director. Kathia will take over my duties including preparing a weekly lesson, scheduling and assisting parents as lesson helpers, and sharing the good news of the success of our new program model to the whole parish. Kathia will to these duties from now until the end of our program year in mid-June. She will not have an office here at church since the bulk of her duties will be carried out on Sunday  mornings. She may be contacted at home via phone or E-mail. Her contact information is contained on the recent parish directory update information for February. At the end of our program year in mid-June we will evaluate the program in order to begin to make plans for the start –up again in the fall. The Vestry has approved this position and its funding which is coming from a portion of the balance of our diocesan congregational development grant. Kathia is in her seventh year as a math teacher at Christopher Columbus Public Middle School in Clifton, New Jersey. Previously, for ten years, Kathia taught math and religion in the parochial schools of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paterson. She and her family (husband-Javier, and sons- Nathan and Matthew) live in Hewitt, NJ and are relatively new members of St. David’s. Welcome aboard, Kathia.

David DeSmith, Rector

AN ECO-LENTEN IDEA FROM A ST.DAVID’S PARISHIONER

Sometime we fail to remember that our changes can make a big difference. What eco habit can you give up for the duration of the Lenten season? Where can you conserve resources and energy? Some ideas would be to give up getting ones' hair and nails done, eating fruit that travels all the way from Mexico or Chile, giving up (not postponing) a trip, or turning off the TV and radio. Also, parking and walking into your bank or fast food restaurant rather than idling in the drive-thru lane is another an easy way to save energy.

2010 Lenten Bible Lecture Series in Progress: Course is offered, March 10, 17 and 24. A Simple Soup Supper @ 6:15 PM, then The Holy Eucharist @ 7:00 PM Lecture @ 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. * All are invited * Come whenever you can to however much you can. Register at tracey.hannigan@stdavidskinnelon.org or call the church office at 973-838-6696

Please know that all are welcome to receive Holy Communion including children. Please follow the greeter’s directions to come forward and stand or kneel at the altar rail as able. You may receive the bread and wine, one or the other, or a simple blessing. If you drink from the chalice please help the chalice bearer by taking hold of the bottom of the chalice and guiding the cup to your lips. You may also intinct (dip) from the chalice or from the intinction cup offered by the acolyte. If you do not wish to receive the wine, simply cross your chest with both hands. However you receive, the words for both the bread and the wine will be spoken over you. Please direct any concerns or questions to one of the clergy. We do offer grape juice as well; please let the Acolyte know if you prefer this.
